One of the most beautiful birds in Israel is also one of the smallest. Just the size of a finger, this feisty bird is a colorful wonder. This photo shows a male standing guard on a leaf, observing the female (out of the picture) as she is sipping nectar from a nearby flower. The male really makes himself a target, with his colorful feathers and shrill voice. If danger approaches both the male and the female fly to safety in a split second.
