European Bee-Eater With a Cosmopolitan

Wonderful news for me - this beautiful photo of a European Bee-Eater displaying the Cosmopolitan butterfly it caught is going to be displayed in an exhibition in Berlin, Germany!

Quoting the email I got:

"

I was planning this photo for quite a while, observing where the Bee-Eaters were catching their food and looking for a spot where I could be close enough without disturbing or scaring them, which also provides an interesting background for the photo. Then I was set, and had to wait for a while for the Bee-Eater to stand on the branch. I was thrilled when it arrived with a fresh catch!

What do I like about this photo? The colors are wonderful, the amount of details is huge. The pose is dynamic. The sunlight reflecting off the eye adds some interest, as well. The composition is well thought-out, putting the Bee-Eater at the right third of the photo. The background provides good contrast of colors to the Bee-Eater. I used an open aperture to create a shallow depth of field, so the Bee-Eater is in focus, but the background is blurred out. Combined, these factors make the Bee-Eater really stand out.

What would I want to improve? There's a small branch hiding a small part of the Bee-Eater, which I would really have preferred to not be here...
