Bee-Eater Closeup Portrait

Bee-Eater Closeup Portrait

This shot took some planning - I was waiting (hidden) patiently near a branch I knew the Bee-Eaters liked to frequent. After a while the model arrived - complete with a butterfly he just caught! Gave me some nice close up shots, with a nice background, before taking off and heading to its nest to feed the youngling there. Thank you, beautiful Bee-Eater!

What do I like about this photo? There's a huge amount of detail - do zoom in! The colors are great, and the pose wonderful, complete with good details and colors on the butterfly. The background is good for the Bee-Eater - green and brown, highlighting its beautiful colors. I used an open aperture to create a shallow depth of field, so the Bee-Eater is in focus but the background is blurred out. The branches in the photo also add some interest, as does the light flickering in the eye of the Bee-Eater.

What would I want to improve? Not much, honestly. Except for the little branch in front of the Bee-Eater, that hides a bit of the leg...
