Huge Monitor Lizard

Huge Monitor Lizard

One of the very nice surprised waiting for us at Kruger National Park was this beautiful huge Monitor Lizard, which we spotted next to a lake. This Lizard is literally huge - about 2 meters long (maybe more, actually), and surprisingly nimble on its feet. What a sight to behold!

What do I like about this photo? The rare subject, in a dynamic pose (see the end of the tongue sticking out of its mouth?). There's quite a bit of detail in the photo - you can observe the details of its beautiful skin.

What would I want to improve? The photo has good focus on the head of the lizard, but the tail is out of focus, and the background is still in focus. Would have been better to blur the background and lose the tail completely, or, alternatively, go for a deeper depth of field and have the tail in focus as well.
