Painting with Waterdrops

Painting with Waterdrops

This time of year the terns are busily catching fish. They do this by plunging into the water and emerging with the fish they catch. Sometimes they emerge empty-handed, but are still beautiful to behold as the water splashes in beautiful forms around them. Like in this photo - the water droplets form a painting in the air.

What do I like about this photo? It's very clean - a dark (but not black) background, the tern, having just emerged from the water, the water droplets, and the waves in the water. I used a fast shutter speed (1/2500 of a second) to freeze the action, so everything appears sharp. The dark background contrasts nicely with the light bird and water droplets, making them really stand out.

What would I want to improve? If the tern would have caught a fish on this expedition that would have been even better, of course. I would also have liked to be a bit closer to get better details on the tern and the water droplets. A lower angle of view might also have upgraded this photo.
