The Common Kestrel is one of my favorite birds - a small, but impressive raptor with endless courage and out of this world flying abilities. In this photo we can see what they look like in mid-air, with the beautiful agility and flexibility.

What do I like about this photo? The beautiful pose, on a beautiful background. I used a fast shutter speed (1/2500 of a second) to freeze the action, and an open aperture to have the bird in focus and the background blurred out. This creates very good separation from the background, so the Kestrel is really stealing the show. The sparkle in the eye also adds a bit to the photo.

What would I want to improve? Obviously, I would have liked to get the full wings in the frame.
