Bee-Eater Catching a Butterfly

Bee-Eater Catching a Butterfly

Here's the beautiful European Bee-Eater in action: a split second before catching a butterfly in mid-air. The coordination required for this is really incredible, and one of the things that make the Bee-Eaters such impressive birds.

What do I like about this photo? This is nature at its finest - showing a real-life action scene that's really hard to observe with the naked eye (usually it would happen far away and really quickly). I used a fast shutter speed (1/2500 of a second) to freeze the movement, so we have a sharp photo. There's quite a bit of details there (do enlarge the photo to observe). The colors are also wonderful.

What would I want to improve? Not too much... Perhaps a higher point of view would have shown a more colorful side of the Bee-Eater. Eye contact would have helped as well, but I suspect the eyes were focused on the butterfly anyway :)
