Graceful Prinia Singing

Graceful Prinia Singing

The Graceful Prinia is a tiny bird - just a few centimeters long. It has a strong voice, however, and its singing can be heard from far away. Actually getting close enough to get a good picture is another issue altogether, since they tend to fly away really quickly. Here I got lucky enough to get close and get some details, with the diagonal branches adding some interest, as well.

What do I like about this photo? The singing pose - you can almost here the high-pitched voice just by looking. The shallow depth of field, caused by an open aperture (f//6.3 - the most open my lens supports at the focal length of 400mm) makes the bird stand out really nice, and the background blurred well. The color contrast between the bird and the background is also good. The diagonal branches, as mentioned earlier, add lots of interest to the photo.

What would I want to improve? Being a bit closer to get more details on the bird would have been awesome!
