Common Redshank

Common Redshank

An unimposing bird, not too large, with gentle tones. That's the Common Redshank. They are very interesting to follow, however, and quite beautiful up close. Binoculars, or a telephoto lens, reveal the beautiful feathers and colors.

What do I like about this photo? There's lots of details, with the bonus of a spark in the eye. I used an open aperture (f/6.3 - the most open my lens supports at the focal length of 400mm) to have a shallow depth of field, so the bird is sharp and most of the the rest is blurred.

What would I want to improve? An even shallower depth of field would have been preferable, as it would make the bird stand out more.
