Double Trouble |
A couple of Marsh Sandpipers taking a rest in shallow water. What caught my eye was the symmetry of the situation - both their mirror-image poses, plus the reflections on the water surface. Nature is the best artist, I always say.
What do I like about this photo? The four-way (or is it two-axis?) symmetry, as mentioned above, is what really caught my eye and makes the situation interesting. I also like water reflections a lot (you might have noticed that already :) ). The background is calm and quiet and doesn't detract from the focus on the two birds, who stand out with some color and form. The red legs add a nice touch of color to an otherwise very softly colored photo.
What would I want to improve? A quieter background would have made the photo more striking, but alas the wind was blowing quite hard that day so the water was never really quiet. Also, a lower angle of view would have made for a more dramatic photo. Photos of birds in water usually benefit from getting as low to the ground as possible. I was afraid to scare them off with too much movement, though, so gave up on that idea.
